Chris turns 30!

It's always nice when a birthday falls on a Monday. Chris took off Monday February 9th to spend his 30th birthday at home with all of us. The kids did have Reading Express but we came home a started celebrated. The theme was Superman. Dinner menu was Flank steak (mom's recipe), Macaroni Pie (a baked mac-n-cheese) and salad. Dessert was an issue. The kids had to have a cake for him. All he'd asked for was A & W rootbeer floats. We're Shullenbargers, we did BOTH! The cake played on the Superman tagline...piped around the plate at each item was "faster than a speeding bullet,

more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound...Happy 30th Birthday, Chris." The building was a pain but it stood up for the singing. The bullet was designed to be bitten and the insignia was just cool. Matt and Chris' sister Jill joined us for the festivities. Jill put her diet on hold to have the steak and mac and cheese and BOTH desserts....we're Shullenbargers. The kids were NUTS about the floats. Rebekah particularly enjoyed pouring more rootbeer on the icecream and watching it foam. Matt wants the recipe for the steak marinade. Presents... okay 2 years ago this things started with hats.

Jessica doesn't care for the conical party hat with elastic strap. When we did Chris' 28th birthday the kids picked pirates so we got him a pirate hat that has seen good use including Elijah's last halloween costume. His 29th was Star Wars and we got a Darth Vader helmet. When Superman was picked Jessica was concerned about what to do. Who knew they made the Man of Steel wigs? It was rather funny giving Chris hair for his 30th brithday. Part of Chris present was a Superman costume. Part of it was really funny cards and a song written by Rebekah which we insisted Chris sing it twice. Additional presents were packs of cards for Chris to write on. He asked for them and they fit the budget. Now the kids know Jessica has a Wonder Woman costume from 2 years ago. Caleb wanted her to put it on to go with Superman. This was pushing the normal limits with our new friend Matt there but she acquiesced and joined Chris in costume. Matt was the one who grabbed the camera.

And so Chris enters his third decade of life.
