Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
Chris and Jessica wonder who was beaming more when our 5-year-old, first born son was moved by the Spirit to be baptized in the Potomac River on Sunday. Caleb has professed Jesus as LORD and Savior for many years now. He prays and is well underway in being discipled and committing God's Word to his heart. He never showed an interest in the baptism thing. So Sunday as we went to Fellowship Church for their outdoor baptism service, we were floored when Caleb said, "I'd like to do that" on the way back to the car. "I could do it another time but I like it in the River." Jessica quickly explained that Pastor Jeff was still in the River and had invited anyone else to come. So off he went down the ramp to catch Jeff. Oh, how hard it was for Jessica! This is something you plan, sign up for, invite people to. In God's gracious compelling, Jessica did have the camera, and invoking John 15:13 "Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life [personality/self-centered nature] for his friends." So setting aside every mothering instinct, which included thoughts of no change of clothes and no towel, Jessica sent Caleb to the River. The chicken was baked in the oven waiting for us at home but we needed to celebrated so Caleb picked Mountain Gate and his prayer that day was "thank you for baptizing me and that Elijah can get baptized soon too." What a heart!
