Location, location, location.
We've been staying in a lot of national forests. They're close to where we want to be, not full, and inexpensive (especially with Jess' Access Pass).
Finding them is kind of as the crow flies. Oh, look I found one 12 miles off the road.
Uh, yeah, 12 miles 7000' up, through a ski resort, and 45 minutes--30 minutes of that on a dirt road.
Turned out to be really good for us because Boise as the hottest weather we'd encountered. 104 on level ground but a pleasant 75 up at our campsite.
