Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” John 21:3

Simon Peter clearly knew how to deal with stress. Do what you know how to do and what you enjoy. Prior to Jessica's episode and diagnosis we had planned a Rockfishing trip. Jessica wanted to go no matter what. A little rest and relaxation never hurt. We skillfully and responsibly had planned it for Election Day and were to be joined by Minki, Dakota, Ron, and Edgar. Captain Lou, who we love dearly, called and said it the fish weren't running yet and the water was rough. He kindly told us we'd be wasting our time and money. Chris' Mom was willing to take off the next Wednesday which is the day Ron got from the Captain. Unfortunately Dakota's school schedule counted him out and we never found a 6th. Before the orinigal date Jessica had begun praying for good fishing. She even asked friends to pray for good fishing--it's that important. We were forced to increase our prayers as the Captain shared his trepidation. Tuesday morning Chris prayed that the fish would come like the end of the story in John 21, too many to pull in the boat. We faithfully deposited the children with the Grandparents Tuesday night, made our hoagies, packed the IBC and Ziplocs and cooler and arrived at the park and ride in Jefferson at 3 a.m. Chris and Jess shared the driving load and Captain Lou put out at 6:15. The water was less than friendly and waves hit 3+ feet but we remained dry and no one threw up. At 7:05 Lou found his spot, put out 6 lines (he usually puts out 16 but it's so rough)and drove in figure 8s. At 7:25 a.m. we had our first two hits. Chris brought in the first beautiful fish. Then it got crazy. All 6 lines were hit at once--that means with the 5 of us there were too many fish to pull in at once! God answers prayer mightily! By 8 a.m. everyone had a fish. Do you know it happened again, all 6 lines at once? We pulled in 13 fish, we lost at least 5 in our efforts and threw the last one back. Jessica brought in a line with TWO fish on it. We were allowed to keep two a piece this year. At 9:30 Captain Lou headed for the dock. Everyone worked to clean and bag the fish. Jessica mastered it this year...see her skinned fish! Chris and Jess and Minki brought home 25 lbs of cleaned fillets:) Chris joked to forget the turkey and we'll have fried rockfish for Thanksgiving. At 11:30 we packed up and headed for home with lunch (hoagies and Popeye's chicken). God was so gracious. Lou said we were LUCKY, we had to tell him we were blessed and God answers prayers. Jessica makes him laugh and shake his head! Jessica had to admit though that she won't be able to do this again if her current physical state continues. She had to persevere with God's help through the day.
