After visiting the Alamo, we took our National Park Service Pass over to the San Antonio

Missions. This is a network of missions close together. We visited tw

o. The largest was the San

Jose Mission. It's outer walls were still intact and its mission church still holds mass. Favorites included the doorways and the coke machine in one of the rooms in the wall. The church itself

was undergoing rennovation, to be reopened in August. There were examples of fresca art on the church's walls. We learned that the mission was not the church but instead the whole community run by

padres and soldiers to reach out to and eventually assimilate the native population. Elijah enjoyed the hands on kitchen space. Junior Rangers Rebekah and Elijah earn another badge.
