What a day! We found great parking just two blocks off the Alamo grounds and spent a lot of time there. It is a privately run landmark. The grounds are beautiful and the exhibits thoughtful. Coming into the grounds though we

walked beside a reinactor and history guy. They were headed

to a film crew. The kids got this great opportunity to hear a musket shot and engage the historian in a Q and A. He was very taken with our family and our trip up to that point. Because the Alamo is essentially a memorial there are no

photographs allowed within the buildings. We ran into the historian later and he purposely pulled us over to introduce us to the crew and tell what we'd been up to. *blush* The director told the kids "you know what special parents you have to be doing this?"

What a blessing to us and for the kids to hear. My guess is they think this is normal. hah! The historian kept slipping us hints and facts including we'd find a Maryland flag inside the Alamo. We kept reading over the name on the list. MO and MD looked a lot the same

on the font they used. The flag was not on display. Cale

b found it in a room undergoing renovation. We did find a new fact. While all the men except a slave perished in the battle many women and children survived. They're not in the Davey Crockett movie. The garden grounds were

amazing. The kids loved the BIG cactus. Caleb showed off his "falling out o

f the tree yesterday" scrape. Yes, we're still so thankful that nothing broke.
