God's time in not always our time but a day with 3 kids ages 5,4,3 can seem like an eternity. Now, Jessica is a planner. Let me explain....lesson plans and practices written out in incremental time chunks, tending to be very accurate. Birthdays parties can be a bit overwhelming. A day fully planned is a nightmare for staying on target. This weekend we enjoyed the company of our best crew, the Jeromes. Elijah's birthday party was for Saturday and Rebekah's Monday (pictures to follow in next blog). On Sunday pre-playoff game, the call came that the Jeromes' house was flooded. See "blogs I follow". Darrell and Paula HAD to get home. We kept the three kids having secured a place to watch the game at a Ravens fan's home (thanks, Jackie, Brain, Hailey, Bri, and William) and agreeing on a kid drop off halfway.
Come Monday morning, we were struggling with packing suitcase, cleaning up toys and icing a cake. ETA at Chuck E. Cheese was 930. Actual arrival 1020. Chris calmly took the load off Jessica seeing to everything else while she tackled the cake (pictures to follow in next blog). Eep!
Party was great and fun--thanks Jaci for extra hands! Presents were left at the house--yes, Jessica went home to fetch them mid party. Now, party concludes at 1215 instead of 11. Jess is the go-to driver to return Jerome offspring. Fully loaded, switched carseats and kids, Jessica heads out on I-70 at 1230. Oh didn't mention, it's SNOWING in ways it was not supposed to. Not impressed with the snow Jessica kept in phone contact with Chris. Having an engagement at church that evening Jess had to make certain time on the round trip. BOOM. Parking lot on I-70 at 1245. Plan...meet in Middletown to exchange drivers. Rescue vehicles stream by on the shoulder in the snow. Hold to plan--get off the highway. Doesn't matter the highway is closed at Middletown--EVERYONE is getting off there. For everyone getting off not many people went 17S to Alt 40 and the roads were bad. You could see where others had gone off the road and gotten back on. (Smile, Paula--two were sleeping and Evan was on the Leapster.) No one can get a traffic report so we call Darrell who is still home. Paula is preparing to leave. I-70 shut down from Middletown to the Washington County line. No further information. This link is the news story. It was a hard afternoon. Chris made it home around 645, sharing that he was glad I had not been the driver because there was more snow on the way. We are thankful God stayed us from being "on schedule". Our prayers are for those involved in the crash and the families who lost loved ones.
