Our track and field season was fun--Warmer than most seasons and wetter too. We only entered two meets this year. Jessica's knee injury came the week of one of our regular meets. Many meets are on Sundays and we're just not comfortable pulling out of church to go to a sporting event.

The kids improved all around this year. Everyone ribboned in two events in our last meet. Rebekah and Caleb can enter 3 events. Elijah can enter two. Relays are open to all. Rebekah found a passion for the 400m, placing 1st in our host meet. She placed 6th in our last meet which was MASSIVE, many will-be 3A and 4A athletes present. The 400m was determined in hundredths of a second for places 3rd-6th. Caleb discovered that while he likes being fast he enjoys the opportunity to just keep going and entered the 800 m placing 3rd in his first race and consistently having practice and meet times fall between 3.31 and 3.33. Elijah shattered his personal long jump record (previously 2' 7") with a 5' 1/4" jump pictured above right. It also gave him second place in the meet. Rebekah placed 3rd in Long Jump and Caleb placed fourth. If you've never been to a track and field meet (where Jessica, joined by Chris passed HOURS between events talking and hanging out with friends), it's a long day. We pack up blankets, toys, games, cards, food, and a toddler sibling to move under the Ropp's two pop-up shade covering /tent thingys for the day. Haddie slept through half the first meet. She was non-stop the second and love every minute of it.

We don't have enough 7-8 year old girls to put together a relay team. Rebekah and Amy teamed with Rebecca from Eldersburg and Madison (the fastest 8 year old there--Rebekah ran in her 100 heat and placed fourth and just let out "Whoa" 2/3s through the race as Madison kept turning it on) from Aberdeen to create a 4 x 100 relay team that blew the other girls team out of the water and finished in front of one of the boys teams.
This is Elijah's 50m dash. All the 6 and unders get a blue participation ribbon when they're done.
